Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson said clearly regarding Islam that 'I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation'. He described the Islamic faith as inconsistent with the Constitution. The Council on American-Islamic Relations, via its spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said 'To me this really means he is not qualified to be president of the United States...You cannot hold these kinds of views and at the same time say you will represent all Americans, of all faiths and backgrounds.'
On September 21 at 11.00 am, CAIR gave a News Conference at its Capitol Hill Headquarters. The reason was to call on Republican Candidate Ben Carson to withdraw from the presidential race for saying that Islam is 'inconsistent' with the Constitution and that a Muslim should not be elected president.

CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said 'Mr. Carson clearly does not understand or care about the Constitution, which states that 'no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office'. Also he said 'We call on our nation's political leaders ““ across the political spectrum ““ to repudiate these unconstitutional and un-American statements and for M. Carson to withdraw from the presidential race'.
